Tourist places of West Bengal - Darjeeling
Darjeeling is one the Himalayan state in West Bengal. It is
a hill station with an average elevation of 6,710ft. It is a world-wide
popular tourist destination. It is very famous for its Tea industry
which not only serves a delicious drink but also adds to the economy of
the state. Beautiful Teesta river cuts it way through this hill station.
This place is very famous for the newly married couple as it is one of
the best honeymoon spot. One must visit this place in order to have a
clear view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak of the world. It
is clearly visible from Darjeeling. One can also enjoy the serene beauty
of Mt. Everest on the day of cloudless and clear sky.
Apart from its scenic beauty this place is also famous for its
Flora and Fauna. Sal, teak are the common trees of this place. Semi
evergreen forest and Alpine forest are found here. There is a nearby
sanctuary, Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary famous for one-horned
rhinoceros, leopard, elephant, tiger etc. One can visit it for
entertainment and fun. Ideal place for animal lovers. One of another
main attraction of this place is Sunrise. The view of sunrise from the
hills of Darjeeling is mesmerizing. It gives an immense satisfaction to
the thirst of nature lovers. And can also make the ordinary people spell
bound. With the rising of the sun the color of the peaks changes.
Tourist Attraction
Kanchenjunga the scenic beauty of this hill is so
clear and prominent that it leaves the tourist spell bound. The beauty
of the nature is so closely oveserved from here that it makes the trip
memorable to all the tourist.
Tiger hill it is at an altitude of 2555m above the
sea level. From here one can enjoy the tranquil beauty of Mt.
Kanchenjunga. Mt. Everest is also visible on a clear day, though it is a
rare sight. And Mt. Everest is just 225km away from Tiger hill.
Darjeeling Toy train
the tourist enjoys the ride of
the toy train as it is not available in the metropolitan cities. It is
another attraction of Darjeeling. The toy train ride is a very famous
thing in Darjeeling and one can travel a long distance in the toy train.
Though it is not like luxurious trains or express yet quite enjoying.
Trekking Spot
it serves as a trekking spot for the
trekking lover. To have an experience of the adventure one must try out
trekking. The first trekking has been conducted here in the year 1840.
While trekking one can experience the magical or spiritual beauty of
this place. April-may and September-November is the suitable time for
the trekking.
Mahakal temple
It is on the Observatory hill. It is considered to be the manifestation of Lord Shiva.
Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Zoo there are two
museums situated in this place which is run by the Himalayan
Mountaineering Institute. They also train the mountaineers. The
mountaineering museum has a huge collection of mountaineer equipments,
topography of Himalaya, and the specimens of Himalayan flora and fauna.
Passenger ropeway
it is the most beautiful
attraction of Darjeeling and also the Indias first passenger ropeway.
This ropeway connects Darjeeling to single bazaar which is 5km away from
it.
Climate
This place experiences five climate- spring, summer, autumn, winter and monsoon.
Winter is bit cold here as it is situated at a high altitude. April
and June have a pleasant weather also a best time for the tourist to
visit.
How to reach there
By AIR
Bagdogra is the nearest airport of Darjeeling. From there one can
hire a taxi in order to reach their destination. The taxi might charge
around Rs 1200. It is 90km away from the airport.
By TRAIN
It does not have its own railway terminals. There the nearest is
New Jalpaiguri station which is 80km away from Darjeeling. The New
Jalpaiguri station is well connected with the other state of the country
by train.
By BUS
Regular bus services are available from all the parts of west
Bengal that connects to Darjeeling. Though the buss journey is quite
hectic and long yet easily availed.
